How To Hire a Plumber

When building your home or making renovations to your already built home, plumbing can be a complicated process that most people can’t handle without the help of a professional. The following is a step by step overview of how to obtain a plumber for your home renovating or building needs.

1. You must first evaluate your home or plans for your potential home to figure out what work needs to be done.

2. Ask friends or neighbors for recommendations of local plumbers. This can give you a chance to see work they’ve already done or to have personal contact with customers who have used their services previously. You can also check the yellow pages in your local phone book.

3. Once you’ve made a list of potential plumbers, contact each and have them come to your home. At this time, they need to have access to the site of renovation or building so they can give you an estimate of costs. At the time of inspection, you need to have a detailed list of descriptions of materials and specifications needed for your specific case. Also make sure that when your plumber gives you a bid they are including the removal of any fixtures necessary. Make sure that they are properly licensed and insured before choosing one to hire as well.

4. After receiving bids from each individual plumber, ask each how long they have been in business. This will give you an idea of their experience in the trade. Also at this time, ask for a list of contacts for references purposes. You should then call these references and ask them how their services were from this specific plumber- were they satisfied? Did the plumber finish in a
timely manner and do his job correctly?

5. Based upon price, experience, and references, you should now be able to choose which plumber you would like to perform your household duties. At the time of choosing, you should draw up a contract, being specific as to the work that needs to be done, payment schedule, materials needed, all costs and a start and end date to the project.
